Maple Tree Housing Project, Williston, VT
Project Scope
The design of fifty new affordable housing apartments within ten new buildings
on an undeveloped sloping site, adjacent to a large new commercial development
in Williston, VT.
Design Challenges & Solutions
- The site design provided outdoor play areas, and accommodated significant
site drainage, accessibility, and zoning restrictions. All new site utilities
were provided.
- The exterior shell design of all buildings met or exceeded REEP energy efficient
standards.
- Floor plans are bath efficient and provide plenty of daylight and openness
within the units.
- The project was brought in within initial projected budget.
What Does An Architect Do? An architect is a trained and licensed professional
with expertise in space planning and building design. To design a building,
many elements must be considered such as planned building function,
behavior of occupants, space use, building materials, site-environment, structural,
mechanical and electrical systems, life safety and fire codes, bidding
and construction methods, budget requirements and aesthetics. The Architect’s
skill is to sort through the many requirements and potential solutions to
find options that best address the client’s needs.
