Firm Overview

Scott + Partners, Inc.

Scott + Partners, Inc., is a full service architectural firm providing planning and design services for a variety of building types throughout Vermont and the Northeast since 1987. We enjoy the challenge of new products, and for this reason we maintain a diverse practice that includes health care, laboratory, educational, religious, commercial, and residential projects. Given this diversity, we do not integrate any one particular style into our work, but strive to carefully incorporate the demands of function, budget, and context to create buildings and spaces of enduring value and interest for our clients.

Our firm is an efficient office of 6 people based in Essex Junction, VT in the historic Brownell Block. There are currently two partners, Tyler Scott, A.I.A. and John Alden, A.I.A., that manage most of the projects. Additional personnel includes senior technical staff, junior technical staff, draftsmen and clerical staff.

We believe that an engaged, collaborative design process involving the client and the design team will bring out the most innovative and successful design solutions for any project. Our experience and understanding gives us the ability to integrate issues of client program, context, environment, aesthetics and budget to develop creative and effective design solutions that exceed our client’s goals. Connecting these issues into the overall building design process is vital to the long term success and sustainability of a project.

Our role in the design process is to:

  • Listen carefully to the client and users
  • Communicate clearly and directly with all parties involved
  • Provide practical design alternatives and recommendations
  • Strive for excellence in project objectives and design
  • Develop responsible, effective design solutions in a timely manner

What Does An Architect Do? An architect is a trained and licensed professional with expertise in space planning and building design. To design a building, many elements must be considered such as planned building function, behavior of occupants, space use, building materials, site-environment, structural, mechanical and electrical systems, life safety and fire codes, bidding and construction methods, budget requirements and aesthetics. The Architect’s skill is to sort through the many requirements and potential solutions to find options that best address the client’s needs.
